Winter Social Media Ideas for Authors

Looking for some social media inspiration this winter? There are a lot of awareness events coming up! So plan ahead and think of fun ways to connect with your readers online. Here are some ideas to get you started.

5 Social Media Ideas for Authors

1. January 26th- Multicultural Children’s Book Day: Join in on the 10th anniversary of this incredible event! Every year, MCBD raises awareness for the kid’s books that celebrate diversity and works to get more of these books into classrooms and libraries. So post about some of your favorite diverse books with hashtag #readyourworld as a way of participating! Tag @readyourworldmcbd on Instagram and @Multiculturalchildrensbookday on Facebook to amplify your reach even more.

2. February 1st-7th- Children’s Authors and Illustrators Week: The first week of February is a perfect time to showcase your work! You can create multiple social media posts that highlight your own books, share some of your best book reviews, and highlight some of your favorite children’s book authors and illustrators. Consider offering a special discount code to your readers for purchasing books during this week.

3. February 1st- World Read Aloud Day: Celebrate #WorldReadAloudDay by posting a video of you reading an excerpt from your books! This is a perfect opportunity to engage on an Instagram Reel, Facebook live, or another video platform. Tag @litworld on Instagram and Facebook so they can share your posts as part of this celebration.

4. February 14th- International Book Giving Day: #BookGivingDay is just what it sounds like! Drop some copies of your books in a local Free Little Library or consider hosting a giveaway of one of your books on social media and select some lucky readers to receive signed copies.

5. Library Lovers Month: For me, this is every month! But February is an opportunity to celebrate #locallibraries all month long. Take photos at your local branch, share your current #libaryholds, and consider reaching out to your local library to schedule an author reading.

Whatever you decide to post on social media this winter, just be sure to mix it up! Tell us about your new book release, go behind the scenes in your writing life, promote the work of other authors, and share some of your favorite writing moments. And, above all, have fun with it!
