Fall Social Media Ideas for Authors

Do you ever sit in front of your computer or hold your phone in your hand wondering what to post on social media? Yeah, me too.

But I've learned to do this a LOT less, especially over the past few months.

If you're looking for some ideas on how authors can connect with readers via social media, check out these 4 ideas to get started on your fall posts!

Fall Social Media Ideas for Authors

  1. Banned Books Week (September 18-24): This annual event celebrates the freedom to read, which is why I love promoting banned books! Have you checked the list recently? Which of your favorites have been banned from classrooms? Share some of your favorite #bannedbooks with your social media followers, and be sure to use #bannedbooksweek and #bannedbooksweek2022 in your post to get more traction.

  2. Adult Education and Family Literacy Week (September 18-24): This week raises public awareness about the need for and value of adult education and family literacy. Check out this website for more tools, resources, and ideas for what to post about during #AEFLWeek

  3. National Book Month (October 1-31): What can authors post about during this month? The possibilities are endless! Feature your own books, tell us about the last book you loved reading, highlight some of your favorite authors, write a review for a book you've always loved, tell us what’s on your nightstand… I bet you could come up with at least 10 ideas to post about this month! Don’t forget to include #NationalBookMonth and #BookMonth2022 in your posts.

  4. TeenTober (October 1-31): This awareness month is all about encouraging young people to read and showcasing great young adult (YA) books. What was your favorite book as a teen? Who are some of your favorite #YA authors? #TeenTober is sponsored by the Young Adult Library Services Association (YALSA). Check out their event toolkit and consider tagging them in your posts!
