Ready for your next round of social media inspiration? May has a lot of great bookish themes to play with! So plan ahead and think of fun ways to connect with your readers online. Here are some ideas to get you started.
May Social Media Ideas
1. Get Caught Reading Month: Where could you “get caught” this month? Take some funny photos of you- or other willing participants- reading in a variety of places throughout May. The sillier or stranger the better :)
2. Short Story Month: Have you written a short story? Take this month to tell us about it! Give us a behind-the-scenes tour of your writing space, your book inspiration, and maybe even post an excerpt from your book to share a taste of what's to come!
3. Children's Book Week- May 2nd-8th: Children's book authors, this week seems to get a lot of traction on social media, so I definitely recommend planning a post- or a series of posts- about your work. But don't just show us your book cover. Mix it up by interviewing your illustrator or editor, posting your favorite reviews, and soliciting some photos from those who have recently purchased your book. It's also a great opportunity to showcase the work of your fellow authors!
4. National Paranormal Day- May 3rd: If you're a paranormal writer, #paranormal day is a great chance to promote your work! Writing in a different genre, but still want to participate? Share some spooky favorites that you have read recently and give a shoutout to the authors.
Taking a few moments to plan social media in advance always helps me feel a little more focused and prepared going into the month ahead. Whatever you decide to post in May, have fun with it!
